NRI shot by two assailants in Punjab, incident captured on CCTV

A non-resident Indian (NRI) was shot by two assailants at his house in a village in Punjab's Amritsar district on Saturday morning.

The shocking incident, which was captured on CCTV cameras inside the house, is being widely shared on social media.

The victim, identified as Sukhchain Singh, a resident of the United States, was attacked by two men wearing turbans who entered his home and fired three shots at him.

The footage shows Singh's mother and son crying and pleading for mercy, but the attackers ignored their pleas and shot Singh in the head and neck, as reported by The Indian Express. Singh is currently undergoing treatment, though his condition remains unknown.

Punjab police have assured that the accused will be arrested soon, according to media reports.

In the wake of the incident, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Badal president Sukhbir Singh Badal criticized the law and order situation in Punjab. Sharing the video on social media, Badal expressed his dismay over the state of affairs in Punjab.

"The law and order situation in Punjab has completely deteriorated. I am very saddened to see the current state of Punjab," Badal said. He further elaborated, "This morning, in Daburji, Sri Amritsar Sahib, miscreants openly fired shots after entering the house of our NRI brother Sukhchain Singh. The mother was pleading with folded hands to save her son, and the innocent child was doing the same to save his father, but the heartless criminals did not listen. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, such incidents are happening every day under your rule. Punjabis are not even safe in their own homes."

Badal also called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mann "on moral grounds" and added, "I pray for the recovery of Sukhchain Singh, who is severely injured and undergoing treatment."

The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of residents, including NRIs, in Punjab and raised questions about the effectiveness of the current administration in maintaining law and order in the state.
