Old bridge collapses in Pune's Talegaon, 15–20 feared swept away in Indrayani river

A major tragedy struck the Talegaon area of Pune on Sunday afternoon when an old bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed, reportedly sweeping away 15 to 20 people into the fast-flowing waters. The incident occurred amidst heavy rainfall and rapidly rising water levels in the region.

Authorities said the bridge, which had been in a deteriorated condition, had long been closed to vehicular movement. However, several locals had gathered on it to witness the surging river when the structure gave way.

So far, five to six individuals have been rescued from the river. Initial reports suggest that the collapse was triggered by the force of the current acting on the weakened bridge.

Rescue and search operations have been launched on a war footing, with local police and district administration teams actively engaged in relief and recovery efforts.
