Following the Supreme Court's critical observation regarding Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s controversial remarks about the December 9, 2022, Indo-China border clash, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju raised questions about the origin of Gandhi’s information.
In a pointed statement, Rijiju said, “There are only three possibilities. One is that Rahul Gandhi's claim stems from an official Government of India or Indian Army source. If that’s the case, and there is credible evidence, it should be presented officially.”
He continued, “The second possibility is that the information has been received from the Chinese government or its authorities, which raises a serious national security concern. The third and most concerning possibility is that Rahul Gandhi has fabricated the information himself — a self-cooked, self-created narrative without any official basis.”
Rijiju asserted that the government has already clarified the facts regarding the security of India's territory, maintaining that the armed forces are effectively safeguarding the nation’s borders. “Rahul Gandhi must now clarify which of these three sources he is citing. It’s a matter of national importance and transparency,” Rijiju added.
The controversy emerged in the wake of Rahul Gandhi’s previous assertions that China had occupied Indian territory, a claim that the government has repeatedly denied.
