Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a "targeted hate crime" rooted in religious hatred.
Speaking to the media, Sarma linked the attack to recent provocative remarks from Pakistan, stating, “Just seven days ago, Pakistan’s army chief issued a veiled threat against Hindus, and today, we are witnessing the horrifying consequences.”
He added, “For the first time, extremists carried out a massacre after asking people their religion. This was not just a terror attack; it was a targeted hate crime. If you are a Hindu, they kill you. If you belong to any other religion, they spare you.”

He expressed confidence that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country will take decisive action against Pakistan, ensuring accountability for the attack. "Pakistan will face the consequences it deserves," he asserted.
Sarma also emphasized the importance of keeping a close watch on Pakistani nationals within India.
Recalling the details of the attack, he noted that the terrorists specifically asked victims if they were Hindus, without questioning their caste or other identities. He urged Hindus to unite and respond firmly to Pakistan’s actions.
The CM also referenced the recent remarks made by Pakistan’s army chief, who expressed hostility toward Hindus, stressing that while India does not use such language, the message from Pakistan should serve as a wake-up call for unity and vigilance.
The attack in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, resulted in the brutal killing of at least 26 civilians, many of them tourists. It has drawn nationwide condemnation and raised fresh concerns over communal targeting by terror outfits.
Sarma’s statement reflects the intensifying national outrage and calls for a robust response to safeguard religious minorities and uphold the secular fabric of the country.
