Wrestler Vinesh Phogat joins farmers on 200th day of protest, urges government action

Prominent Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat made a powerful statement of solidarity with the ongoing farmers' protest as she joined the demonstrators at the Shambhu border on the 200th day of their agitation. Addressing the gathered crowd, Phogat, who has consistently supported the farmers' cause, declared, "Your daughter is with you," reaffirming her unwavering commitment to their struggle.

The farmers, who have been encamped at the Shambhu border since February 13 after their march to Delhi was thwarted by authorities, have continued their protest demanding a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, among other critical issues. Phogat, hailing from a farming background herself, was warmly welcomed by the protesters and honoured with garlands as a mark of respect for her support.

In her heartfelt speech, Phogat lauded the farmers for their resilience and enduring spirit. "I am fortunate to have been born into a farmer's family," she expressed, sharing her deep connection to the cause. She praised the farmers for their unwavering energy and determination, despite the long and challenging battle they have faced in their quest for justice.

Phogat also took the opportunity to directly address the government, urging them to heed the farmers' demands. "It is disheartening that after 200 days, the voices of our farmers have not been heard," she remarked, expressing her disappointment with the prolonged standoff. She emphasized that the farmers' determination has not only inspired her but also many others to continue fighting for their rights.

In closing, Phogat reiterated her commitment to the farmers' cause, stating, "We must stand for our rights because no one else will do it for us. I pray that your demands are met, and you do not return without securing your rights." Her words resonated deeply with the protesters, reinforcing their resolve to continue their fight until their demands are addressed.
