GANGTOK: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) today announced that from next year August 20 would be declared as a government holiday.
August 20 is annually observed as Bhasa Diwas.

On August 20, the Nepali language was recognised in the eight schedules of an Indian Constitution in the year 1992.
Addressing a function at Soreng on the occasion of the 81st birth anniversary of Late Nar Bahadhur Bhandari, CM Tamang said, “ I declare government holiday on August 20 from next year as a day to celebrate the recognition of Nepali language in the Indian constitution.”
