Due to continuous and incessant rain since a couple of days in North Sikkim, landslides have been triggered at many parts of the district, which has caused inconvenience to the tourists and the local public of the district.
A cloud burst has been reported to have occurred somewhere in the upstream of the Dam of Teesta III, Chungthang at 2.30 pm on Monday.
As per SDM, Chungthang there is no report of any casualty or damages.
All the people living in the lower belt have been alerted about the situation by the District Administrative Centre, North under the guidance of the DM, North.
However, there is no report of any massive landslides.
Rescue teams have been mobilized to clear the slide at war foot manner wherever the landslide has occurred.
The NHPC Guest House located near Dikchu Bridge has also been washed away; similarly, Mantam foot suspension bridge has collapsed in upper Dzongu. As an aftermath Sakyong-Pentong, Bay and some other villages of upper Dzongu have been totally cut off.
All road connectivity is clear except Chungthang to Lachen is blocked at Munsithang and several points; it may be mentioned that efforts are underway to clear the roads as soon as possible.
The NDRF team located at Pakyong has been directed to move immediately to Singtam to extend help.
People in Singtam and Adarsh Gaon are set on alert. The fresh high volume of water from Teesta river upstream was expected to cross Singtam last night. Authorities have mobilized resources and taking all precautionary measures.
Both police and locals at Adarsh gaon are on high alert.
