GANGTOK: In spite of a surge in the number of coronavirus cases, the Northeast Indian state of Sikkim will not impose "total lockdown" and will instead impose some regulations to check the spread of the viral disease.

"Sikkim State will not impose total lockdown but there will be restriction during night for vehicular and peoples' movement and odd-even formula will be imposed in Saturday and Sunday," said that state's Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Sikkim's Covid-19 tally rose to 4,967 on Saturday as 59 more people tested positive for the infection. 4 more people died from the disease, taking the toll to 107. Sikkim has one of the highest COVID-19 fatality rates in the country.
In another COVID-19 related update, the Centre has announced the third stimulus package of 900 crore rupees for the Mission COVID Suraksha - The Indian COVID-19 Vaccine Development Mission.

"This grant will be provided to the Department of Biotechnology, DBT for Research and Development of Indian COVID-19 vaccines with end-to-end focus from preclinical development through clinical development and manufacturing and regulatory facilitation for deployment. It would consolidate all available and funded resources towards an accelerated product development," said a Government release.
