Former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling's daughter has condemned yesterday's attack on a Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) convoy, allegedly by supporters of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Party (SKM).
Recounting the incident, she says that they began our campaign for the by elections at Poklok Kamrang and first thing in the morning, their candidate Moses Rai and his team were attacked near the Assangthang Helipad. One of the candidate’s friends Kewal Thapa was physically assaulted by the group of SKM party workers who had assembled to disrupt our campaign, she said.

According to Komal Chamling, there were many people from SKM with black flags, and some with masks, who even used small pieces of rod, cut with a machine, as pellets to attack.
"After this incident, we lodged a GD at the Namchi police station giving the entire schedule of my father, the Party President, for the day, but the police chose not to give any protection", she says.

At Bhaisalgaon, several cars with SKM workers along with the flags came near where we were and began to shout slogans to disturb our campaign, she said, adding that some of the people identified in that group were Laxmi Tamang, Sunil Pradhan and Lhadup Tamang, all from Sorok, and all were SKM party members.
"After the last stop, on our way back from Upper Salghari, our car, in which the Party President, was also sitting, was attacked with stones. The attack took place near Timburey Lower Dorop School. They threw stones from all sides and especially from the right side where I was sitting. There was a barrage of stones and the window glass completely came off in the process. I got hit by the stones on my hip and have sustained some injuries", she adds.
Komal has also accused the SKM party of attempting to disrupt the campaign, and condemned the ruling Government for not giving protection to former CM Chamling and his entourage.
