Gangtok, January 20, 2020:

Sikkim Weightlifter Pemba Tshering Sherpa has bagged Bronze in the 81 kg weightlifting category at the ongoing third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 held in Guwahati.

Pemba Tshering won the honor at the Under-21 category of weightlifting contest held at the national games. It needs mention here that this is the first ever medal won by Sikkim in the highest level of National competition.

Six Boxers and four Athletes and one weightlifter from Sikkim had participated at the Khelo India Youth Games. Assistant Director Dilip Chettri, along with two Boxing coaches and a manager for Athletics had led the Sikkim contingent.

It may be mentioned here that athletes from across the country have participated in the Khelo India Youth Games 2020. Haryana has topped the medals tally of the Youth Games. Players from Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Manipur, Mizoram, Odisha and home state, Assam have also showcased exemplary performances in their respective fields.
