Gangtok, May 27, 2019:

Prem Singh Tamang, popularly known as PS Golay, who is the leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), has taken oath as the new Chief Minister of Sikkim here on Monday. He was administered the oath by Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad at the Paljor Stadium in capital city Gangtok.

PS Golay's SKM party was able to win the majority by winning 17 seats in comparison to the Pawan Kumar Chamling-led Sikkim Democratic Front's tally of 15 seats.

It may be mentioned that although PS Golay is not a member of the Assembly at present as he did not contest the elections himself.

Hundreds of the party's supporters thronged the stadium to see the 51-year-old being sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the State.

They cheered loudly when he took the oath in the Nepali language.

It may be mentioned that SDF leaders including the outgoing Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, were absent from the oath-taking ceremony.

Outgoing Chief Minister Pawan Chamling held his last cabinet meet and meeting with the chief secretary and other bureaucrats. Chamling and his cabinet colleagues had submitted his resignation to the Governor on Friday.
