The Jorethang police in Sikkim on August 10th, 2020 arrested four persons for their posts on social media hurting religious sentiments.

“They were arrested for posting provocative social media messages and promoting religious hatred,” police said.

Naushad Ahmad son of Mubarak Ahmed, who originally hails from Bihar and staying in Jorethang, has been active on social media with his name that regularly posts satirical videos, cartoons and other content that is mostly abusing and mocking religious content in last two/three years.

A complaint regarding the same was lodged by locals with the Police.

Jorethang police in Sikkim picked up  Naushad Ahmad, son of Mubarak Ahmed; Atif Lakhey; DJ Sameer and one other in the incident.

Complaint against these people have been lodged with SDPO Jorethang and it was reported that all “were found inciting disharmony communal unrest with their hate messages on the social media”.
