GANGTOK: Sikkim on Friday recorded 14 new COVID-19 cases nearing the total tally to 6,000 mark. The total count has reached 5,979 with 393 active cases and 129 deaths.

Among the new cases, 13 tested positive for the contagion in east district and one in south.

Meanwhile, 67 from State central prison at Rongyek and 16 from Namchi prison have recovered. 

As many as 217 inmates of Rongyek jail were detected with coronavirus in a span of less than two weeks, with last positive case reported on December 28, 2020.

COVID-19 Cases in India:

India's Covid-19 tally of cases climbed to 1,04,31,639 with 18,222 new cases in a day, while 1,00,56,651 people have recuperated so far pushing the national recovery rate to 96.41 per cent on Saturday, according to Union health ministry data.
