Former Gangtok Mayor KN Topgay and ASTA vice-president Lakpa Sherpa were arrested today after an FIR was filed against them by one TB Chettri, a vendor from Lal Bazaar who accused them of assaulting him.
All Sikkim Traders Association and Vendors of Lal Baazar shopping complex had called a meeting in presence of KN Topgay and Lakpa Sherpa. The meeting was held regarding filing of a case in the Courts against the ban on non organic vegetables, which was affecting their livelihood.
It was decided that Rs. 10,000/- each would be collected from every shop towards legal charges. Meanwhile, one of the vendors, TB Chettri opposed the move saying that he can't afford the said amount. This led to a flare-up and scuffle where the vendor is said to have been hit.
Subsequent to filing of FIR by him, the two were arrested. They have both been admitted to STNM hospital now.
