Sikkim reported four more COVID-19 cases on June 23rd, 2020, taking the Himalayan state's total to 83, a top Health department official said on Wednesday.
Director General (DG)-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr Pema T Bhutia said that four persons, all the cases are from South District. “Their contact tracing is being carried out,” he added.
Bhutia further said that 29 patients have so far recovered from COVID-19 in Sikkim and 54 cases are active at present.
Sikkim had remained COVID-19 free till May 23rd, 2020. The state reported 36 cases on June 12th, 2020. This was the single-day highest.
It was also one of the first states to have completely closed down its borders and prohibited all movement, except the transport of essential goods, between the state and the rest of the country. The restrictions were lifted in the state after the Centre started easing the nationwide lockdown and allowed Sikkimese residents living outside the state to return.

Assam has registered the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Northeast followed by Tripura.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 135796 corona cases with 67706 cured, 6283 deaths, and 61807 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 62655 cases with 36602 cured, 2233 deaths, and 23820 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 62087 positive cases with 34112 cured, 794 deaths 27181 active cases. Gujarat with 27825 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 19909 have been cured, 1684 deaths, and 6232 active cases.
