Sikkim: Govt. imposes section 144 CrPC within 500m. radius of Tashiling Secretariat

GANGTOK: The Government of Sikkim imposed Section 144 CrPC within 500 meters radius from the outer boundary of the Tashiling Secretariat. The prohibitory order by the government bans any assembly of 5 or more people within the radius. The order shall remain in force from 6 PM of September 1 until further notice.

The official statement by district administration stated that there has been congregation of people outside office of Education department to raise their demands. It further mentioned that the education department officials have heard their grievances and have also explained the position of the Government.

Hence, in order to ensure public conduct and decorum near the Tashiling Secretariat, it is necessary that law and order is maintained, the statement further mentioned.

The decision to prohibit people from assembling in groups is taken to prevent untoward incident which is likely to disrupt or adversely affect the sanctity and decorum of the secretariat and further lead to disturbance to the public peace and tranquility.
