Sikkim High Court Bar Association formed today, Doma Bhutia named President

GANGTOK: Sikkim High Court Bar Association has been formed today with a view to "promote, protect and encourage the legal profession in the persist of justice to its citizens." Dr. Doma Bhutia has been nominated as it's full-fledged president for two years

Talking to newsmen, Dr. Doma said that the newly formed Sikkim High Court Bar Association has been formed in order to meet "the common aspirations, the development and welfare of its member as well as to strive towards stronghold the institutions working in the State of Sikkim adding that the association will uphold rule of law and administration of justice in pursuit of justice."

When asked about the split of Bar since she has recently lost her battle to her rival Jorgay Namkha for the post of President of Bar Association of Sikkim, she denied that and said "Constitution has mandated every citizen to form association and there is no Bar Association attached with High Court of Sikkim to cater the needs of practicing advocates in the High Court."

She further clarified that earlier, there was an concept of having High Court Bar Association and it was also formed, but it was not able to "deliver the expectations and aspirations of its members."

When asked about the objective of the newly formed association, she said that High Court Bar Association will strengthen, support and encourage legal professionals of the State to protect "privilege, interest and prestige of association in order to promote legal literacy and awareness amongst its people."

Highlighting the need to organize a symposium on the issue of public importance, she lamented that Bar Association of Sikkim fails to address this issues and therefore, the newly formed body will take this up in the cause of public interest.
