Sikkim to Host 4th All India IMF Sport Climbing Competition

Gangtok, August 21, 2019:

The Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Ecotourism (IHCAE), located at Chemchey, South Sikkim, is going to conduct the 4th ALL INDIA IMF SPORT CLIMBING Competition from September 6-September 8.

The competition will be held under the aegis of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) New Delhi, an apex body at the national level.

All seven IMF Zones spread all across the country will be fielding their seasoned competitors in this competition. "This is the first ever sport climbing event that has been awarded to the North East State and we feel proud to have this competition given to Sikkim", says Col D N Bhutia, Director, IHCAE.

'Sport Climbing' is a new phenomena in the Indian sub-continent, but it has rapidly become one of the most preferred adventure sports for the young generations.

This sport engulfs in it all the techniques and essentials of mountaineering, climbing encompassing all types of weather and terrain.

The competition will be held in three categories: Sub Junior (ages 10 to 14), Juniors (ages 15-17), and Seniors (18 years and above).

There will be around 230 young and old competitors vying for the first three slots in each category. The competition will be conducted by the IMF officials and technical experts.

The competition will be for two disciplines of the Sport Climbing: SPEED and LEAD.

Minister, Tourism & Civil Aviation B S Panth, will declare the tournament open on 6 September, 2019. Similarly, Sikkim CM PS Golay will accept invitation as Chief Guest on the closing ceremony on 8 September, 2019.
