GANGTOK: The Sikkim government on Saturday took the decision to reopen educational institutions from September 6.
However, classes from LKG to VIII (eight) shall continue to remain closed till further orders.
"Consequent to the decision of the Government the following are notified that all central and state government, government aided, and private educational institutions, universities, colleges, tutorials, coaching institutes, and hostels will reopen and operate from September 6, across the State", stated the state government in an official notification.
The notification stated that the educational institutions shall reopen from Classes IX (nine) to XII (twelve) on a normal basis.

The students will have to produce a written permission from parents. All universities, colleges, tutorials, coaching institutes, and hostels will operate on a 50 % basis.
However, online teaching and homeschooling being conducted presently through various platforms shall continue. Teaching Faculty have been asked to submit weekly reports to their Heads of Institutions.
The state government has also directed the Heads of Institutions to start preparations for the reopening of institutions from September 01, 2021. They have been given the power to conduct semestral tests, examinations, or any such assessments through online or any other mode as per the convenience of the respective institutions.
The state government has further urged the institutions to follow alternative Academic Calendar designed for 2021 being issued to all.
The institutions under central government will follow guidelines issued by it .
These guidelines will be applicable for institutions with no specific guidelines or directions.
All Covid-19 protocols shall be observed scrupulously by all Institutions.
The educational institutions were ordered to remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
