Sikkim: Two fresh COVID-19 cases reported, state tally rises to 70

Sikkim reported two new positive COVID-19 cases on June 17^th, 2020. With these, the total number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 70.

One of the patients is from Kyongsa in West Sikkim and the other is from Tathangchenn in Gangtok.

Of the total 70 confirmed cases, 65 are active COVID-19 cases

Sikkim had remained COVID-19 free till May 23^rd, 2020. The state reported 36 cases on June 12^th, 2020. This was the single-day highest.

It was also one of the first states to have completely closed down its borders and prohibited all movement, except the transport of essential goods, between the state and the rest of the country. The restrictions were lifted in the state after the Centre started easing the nationwide lockdown and allowed Sikkimese residents living outside the state to return.

Sikkim and Northeast India

Assam has highest number of COVID-10 cases in the Northeast India followed by Tripura.

India COVID-19 cases so far

India has crossed 2 lakh-mark in terms of corona positives on June 3rd. As on June 17^th, the country currently has 354K confirmed COVID-19 cases, 155227 active cases with 186935 cured and discharged. The total number of deaths is 11903.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 3 thousand deaths. It has recorded 113445 corona cases with 57851 cured, 5537 deaths, and 50057 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 44688 cases with 16500 cured, 1837 deaths, and 26351 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 48019 positive cases with 26782 cured, 528 deaths 20706 active cases. Gujarat with 24577 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 17082 have been cured, 1533 deaths, and 5962 active cases.
