A massive landslide hit Myong Kyong in Upper Dzongu in Sikkim killing two and leaving others injured on May 24th, 2020 evening.
The landslide caused by the incessant heavy rainfall washed away three houses in the area and partially damaged 11 other houses. The rescue operation was pressed into service following the landslide.
All the residents of these houses were evacuated and shifted to JHS relief camp in Lingzya.
On the same day, a landslide killed a woman at Lingchom in Kabi-Lungtsog constituency in North Sikkim at around 12:30 pm. The deceased has been identified as Phu Phu Lhamu Sherpa, 57.

As per information, the deceased and her family members had gone to shelter to their neighbour's house when the first landslide occurred and damaged their toilet that morning. Unfortunately, the second landslide triggered right above the house belonging to one Passang Sherpa where they were sheltering for safety and killed the lady.
The daughter-in-law of the deceased - Doma Sherpa and BHaichung Sherpa had sustained injuries in the landslide. Sherpa sustained injuries while trying to rescue the deceased’s family. Both the injured were rushed to STNM Hospital Gangtok.
Later, the administration with the help of the villagers evacuated the dead body of the deceased and sent the body to District Hospital Mangan for post mortem examination.

The deputy commissioner North, TT Kaleon; MLA cum Minister Forest, Karma Loday Bhutia; Sub-divisional Magistrate Kabi along with BDO and SHO Phodong Police Station visited the spot to take the stock of damages.
Meanwhile, the landslide blocked the Gangtok-Mangan road at Phensong and near Kabi disrupting public movement. The approach road leading to Upper Lingchom which is 4 kms from main road of Mangan-Gangtok highway has been inaccessible due to the landslide at several areas.
