The Additional District Collector Development Office in Sikkim's Pakyong has unveiled an expansion of its flagship initiative, the Mission Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation. Entering its 35th episode, the mission has now introduced a dynamic new platform: the CONNECT EARTH SWEAT CONTRIBUTIONS CENTER.
The initiative, backed by the Zilla and Gram Panchayats, is being spearheaded by the district’s Rural Development Department, with technical support from the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperation departments. Together, these entities are transforming idle land into fertile fields, rejuvenating both the soil and the community.
The mission, which originally began as "Friday Field/Farm Day," has evolved into a community-driven movement that focuses on mass agriculture and horticulture production. By revitalizing unproductive land, it not only helps local farmers but also strengthens food security and promotes environmentally conscious agricultural practices across the district.
The rebranding of the movement to the CONNECT EARTH SWEAT CONTRIBUTIONS CENTER marks a symbolic shift in its approach. This new phase is aimed at involving the youth and young government employees, encouraging them to step away from their desks and into the fields—barefoot, connected, and grounded. The act of working the land without shoes is a key feature of the initiative, as it fosters a deeper connection to the Earth and promotes both physical and mental well-being.
The District Administration has extended an open invitation to all young citizens and employees to join this transformative journey. By participating in this initiative, individuals can enjoy three key benefits. Firstly, they will have the opportunity to support sustainable agriculture by learning eco-friendly farming techniques while empowering local farmers.
Secondly, participants will improve their health and well-being through engaging in nature-based activities that promote physical and mental wellness.
Lastly, their involvement will contribute to building a better tomorrow, fostering a resilient and self-sustaining future for the state.
