The Sikkim Government is in the process of imposing a week-long lockdown in the Gangtok Municipal area starting Monday, sources inform. This is clearly in light of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the capital and an effort to contain it. The latest lockdown, sources inform, will be in lines of the first lockdown with vehicles kept off the roads except those engaged in essential services. The lockdown is likely to be clamped from September 21.

Government offices open at reduced strength and all shops, except those dealing in essential items. An order to this effect is expected by later today. This must have been done after taking permission of the centre as the latest guidelines for such moves have been directed.
