Amar Subba, the ‘Marathon Man of Sikkim,’ shines at Malaysia Ultra Trail by UTMB 2025
Amar Subba, popularly known as the “Marathon Man of Sikkim,” has achieved a strong finish at the Malaysia Ultra Trail by UTMB 2025 in the 50 km category.
He secured 11th place in his world age group with a finish time of 10:03:21 and ranked 121st overall out of 700 finishers.
Among the three Indian participants in the segment, Subba recorded the highest ranking.
The Malaysia Ultra Trail by UTMB is regarded as one of Asia’s toughest trail races, featuring brutal elevation profiles, high humidity, and extreme heat—conditions that tested every competitor and slowed racing speeds. Despite these challenges, Subba demonstrated remarkable resilience and maintained a competitive position throughout.
Reflecting on his performance, Subba said: “The course presented extreme physical and environmental challenges. The climate slowed my pace, and I even experienced dizziness twice, requiring assistance from the Aid Station crew. Overall, it was a valuable experience and an honour to compete alongside world-class elite athletes. The event was exceptionally well organised and provided a tremendous learning opportunity. I feel immense pride representing Sikkim and India on the global stage.”
The Malaysia Ultra Trail by UTMB draws international participation from some of the sport’s most accomplished trail runners. Subba’s finish not only highlights his grit and determination but also marks a milestone in the growing presence of Indian athletes in the global ultra trail running arena.
