Gangtok drenched in colours of 'Pride' as Sikkim hosts 4th Annual Pride Walk 2025

The streets of Gangtok turned into a vivid celebration of identity, resilience, and inclusivity as the Rainbow Hills Association, in collaboration with the Sikkim AIDS Control Society, organised the 4th edition of the Sikkim Pride Walk 2025 on Sunday, June 22. This year’s walk, themed “Fabric of Freedom,” began at Zero Point and concluded at MG Marg, drawing more than 100 spirited participants in a public expression of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community.

Draped in rainbow hues, the event served as both a celebration and a powerful platform to raise awareness about the rights, dignity, and challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. Organisers emphasized the importance of building inclusive spaces in Sikkimese society where every person is respected regardless of their gender or sexual identity.

Speaking at the event, Medusa, President of Rainbow Hills Association, spotlighted the continued stigma the community endures. “We are often treated as taboo, yet we are as human as anyone else. This walk is a statement — to reclaim space, affirm identity, and push for societal change. Mental health issues, homelessness, and suicide disproportionately affect LGBTQIA+ individuals, and this must change,” he said, calling for greater compassion and acceptance.

Avinam Manger, Core Member and Sikkim Pride Manager, noted that the Pride Walk marked the culmination of the month-long Pride celebrations organized across the state. “This event is a celebration of who we are — our strength, our beauty, and our right to exist freely. Our mission continues: to create a society where no one has to hide.”

The walk ended on an emotional high with cultural performances, solidarity speeches, and the symbolic waving of rainbow flags — a moment that added another vibrant chapter to Sikkim’s ongoing journey toward equality, love, and dignity for all.
