PM Modi’s Sikkim address to boost tourism, infra and adventure sector: Official
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address in Sikkim is expected to give a major boost to the state’s tourism sector, according to Sikkim Additional Chief Secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, C.S. Rao.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Rao said the speech would have a positive impact on tourism by bringing national attention to Sikkim’s natural beauty, hospitality and untapped potential.
He said Prime Minister Modi highlighted Sikkim as a paradise in the eastern region, known for its varied altitudes, rich vegetation and scenic landscapes that attract visitors from across the country and abroad.
Rao added that the state is committed to providing excellent hospitality to tourists and is simultaneously focusing on both rural and urban tourism to diversify visitor experiences and spread economic benefits to local communities.
He noted that rural tourism has become an important focus area, allowing travellers to experience village life, local traditions and eco-friendly destinations, while urban tourism continues to expand through improved amenities and connectivity.
The senior official also said the Prime Minister assured support for the infrastructure required for tourism development in the Himalayan state.
According to Rao, Sikkim has significant potential in adventure tourism, including trekking, mountain-based activities and nature-driven experiences, and improved infrastructure would further strengthen the sector.
Tourism remains one of Sikkim’s key economic drivers, and officials believe the Prime Minister’s endorsement could help attract greater investment, increase tourist footfall and create new livelihood opportunities in the state.
