About 400 vehicles with tourists have been stranded on Tsomgo axis even as heavy snowfall has affected several parts of Sikkim.
Sikkim received snowfall in parts of North Sikkim places like Lachung, Lachung in north Sikkim while Tsomgo lake, Indo China border Nathula border, Baba Mandir and upper reaches received a good amount of snowfall. Following this a severe cold wave has gripped the state of Sikkim and adjoining areas. Meanwhile, Ravangla received hailstones.
These places are Sikkim's main tourist attractions and on a daily basis a good number of vehicles ferrying tourists travel to these places. As a result more than 400 vehicles are stranded due to heavy snowfall on the Tsomgo axis along with tourists. The Indian Army has provided food and shelter to the stranded tourists. It is expected that the evacuation could be effective tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in the capital Gangtok, recorded 6-degree celsius daily temperate was recorded as per Indian Meteorological Department (Sikkim). It must be informed here that for the last 48 hours Sikkim had very cold weather and the cold has gripped the entire state after the snowfall.
Another aspect of snowfall is that due to snowfall tourists are attracted Sikkim is already receiving a good number of tourists and travel planners have already started receiving bookings from across the nation.
