Sikkim CM lays foundation for Rs 197 crore projects, including bus terminus in Siliguri

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang laid the foundation stone for a healthcare center, a guest house, and a renovated bus terminus at the SNT complex in Siliguri, spread over 2.1 acres of land.

The project, costing Rs 197 crore, will also centralise various Sikkim government offices in Siliguri at one location in the SNT complex.

The infrastructure development at the SNT premises has been a long-standing plan of the state government, which faced backlash due to encroachment issues from nearby structures and residences.

However, CM Tamang assured of having reached consensus with 'the neighbours' as well as with the West Bengal government and Siliguri Municipal Corporation approving the construction of the infrastructure.

"There will be 50 rooms in the healthcare center, complete with kitchen facilities. It will have doctors and nurses to cater to patients, along with clinical facilities. The center will also include suites for the Governor, Chief Minister, Assembly Speaker, ministers, and legislators. Additionally, the facility will feature automatic bus parking, taxi vehicle parking, and a shopping complex. All of these will be constructed within 24 months," shared the Sikkim chief minister.

He further stated, "Most of Sikkim's concerns, from commuting and house construction to even shopping, are addressed in Siliguri, which is convenient for the Sikkimese people. It is the nearest metropolitan city for us. Often, our people come here for healthcare concerns to receive better treatment in nursing homes and hospitals. The healthcare center will be for those who cannot afford to stay elsewhere. It will not cater to government officers. It will only serve as a transit guest house, not a permanent nursing home, where you need to renew your stay every four days."
