Sikkim CM PS Tamang flags off walkathon commemorating International Everest Day

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang flagged off ‘HILL WALKATHON’ on May 29 morning. 

 

The event was organised by Denzong Sherpa Association in collaboration with the state Tourism department, as part of the 17th International Everest Day 2024 celebration.

 

During the day, a theme-based programme, presentation of award and certificate to mountaineers will be held at Chintan Bhawan. 

 

The celebrations will conclude with the cultural performances at MG Marg, bringing together the local community and visitors in a spirit of camaraderie. 

 

International Everest Day is a significant event that commemorates the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on May 29, 1953. This day was declared globally in 2008 following the passing of Sir Edmund Hillary, and it has since become an annual celebration of mountaineering achievements and the spirit of adventure, which is observed by the Denzong Sherpa Association in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Government of Sikkim.
