Sikkim CM Tamang attends 14th Dalai Lama's birthday celebration, expresses gratitude

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the 89th birthday celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, at the Dalai Lama Temple, in McLeodganj on July 6, expressing gratitude to have been a part of such a significant event.

The Sikkim chief minister was accorded a warm welcome by Sikyong (CTA) Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, and the entire team of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). 

The programme was also attended by Speaker M N Sherpa, Ministers Bhim Hang Subba, Puran Gurung and Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, MLA’s Sanjit Kharel and Erung Lepcha, DoP Secretary (Rtd) and Former Chairman (ARC) Tenzing Gelek, Principal RC AK Chand, and CMO Secretary Dr SD Dhakal, including the representatives of the local Tibetan Assembly in Gangtok, along with executive members of the six Tibetan associations and the students from Sikkim.

The celebration underscored the enduring impact of His Holiness's teachings on compassion, peace, and harmony. 

Earlier, CM Tamang took to the microblogging site X and extended wishes to the Dalai Lama. He wrote, "On behalf of the people of Sikkim and myself, it is my great honor to extend our heartiest greetings and best wishes to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on His 89th birth anniversary, now celebrated as the Universal Day of Compassion."

He further wrote, "His Holiness’ dedication to promoting peace, compassion, and harmony inspires us all. We are deeply grateful for the wisdom and guidance. May His Holiness’ vision of a compassionate world flourish, and may His tireless efforts in spreading love and compassion continue to touch lives."
