A group of 41 individuals from Sikkim, including representatives from the local Tibetan Assembly in Gangtok, executive members of the Six Tibetan Associations, and 28 college and school students, have embarked on a significant educational exposure tour to Dharamshala. The tour coincides with the celebration of the 89th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on July 6, where they will participate alongside Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will be present as the Chief Guest during the celebrations, underscoring the importance of the occasion for the delegation from Sikkim. The tour aims to provide participants with insights into the functioning of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and to deepen their understanding of Tibetan culture and traditions.
Before commencing their journey, the delegation had the opportunity to meet with Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang, who expressed the government's commitment to supporting the educational tour. Addressing the group, Chief Minister Tamang encouraged the students to make the most of their visit, emphasizing the spiritual significance of Dharamshala and the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
On the first day of their tour, the delegation visited the Norbulingka Temple in Dharamshala, where they explored Tibetan handlooms and handicrafts, gaining insights into the rich cultural heritage of Tibet.
Tenzing Tsephel, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for organizing this educational tour, marking it as a pioneering initiative for Tibetan students from Sikkim. "We are honored to have such a thoughtful Chief Minister," Tsephel remarked.
A member expressed gratitude and blessing for the opportunity. She said, “It is essential for everyone to know about the Tibetan government, parliament as well as the culture,” further stating that the “opportunity is a blessing”. She added, “On behalf of all Tibetan students, we are grateful to the government for this chance.”
The students, appreciative of the opportunity, described the tour as a blessing that will not only enhance their knowledge of Tibetan administration but also deepen their appreciation for Tibetan culture and traditions. They look forward to further explorations and learning during their stay in Dharamshala.
The educational tour symbolises a bridge between Sikkim and Dharamshala, promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding among participants. As they continue their journey, the delegation remains committed to absorbing the spiritual and cultural richness of Dharamshala, guided by the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
