Sikkim Democratic Front alleges Model Code of Conduct violations by ruling SKM party

Former Lok Sabha MP and Senior Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) leader PD Rai led a delegation to meet the Chief Electoral Officer on March 19, alleging Model Code of Conduct violations by the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party.

Post the meeting, Rai addressed the media, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the sources of party funding, specifically questioning SKM party chief Prem Singh Tamang about the usage of their funds.

Rai defended the use of electoral bonds prior to their recent invalidation by the Supreme Court. He thanked the Chief Electoral Officer for their time and expressed that their demands were duly noted. Rai also highlighted the ongoing issue of Presidential rule in the state, citing past instances of violence leading to loss of public faith in law and order.

He accused the SKM party and government agents of not adhering to the Model Code of Conduct, specifically mentioning the issue of the Department of Personnel still issuing orders, which he deemed a clear violation. Rai stated these issues were brought to the notice of the Chief Electoral Officer.
