Sikkim Governor reviews progress of strategic Sevoke-Rangpo railway project
Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Line Project at Khanikhola, Rangpo under Pakyong district today, reviewing its progress and strategic importance for the state and the nation.
Accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Dr. Indra Hang Subba, Pakyong District Collector Rohan A., and officials from the district administration, the Governor interacted with senior officials of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to assess the development status of the long-awaited project.
During the review meeting, NFR General Manager (Construction) Arun Chaudhary and IRCON International Limited CMD Hari Mohan Gupta briefed the Governor on the current progress, technical details, and challenges impeding timely completion.
Emphasizing the project’s multifaceted significance, Governor Mathur said, “The Sevoke-Rangpo railway project will boost Sikkim’s tourism sector, enhance national security, and promote industrial and socio-economic growth in the region.” He also urged officials to ensure high standards of construction quality, safety, and timely execution.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for enhanced infrastructure and connectivity in the Northeast, the Governor noted that the project symbolizes the Centre’s commitment to regional integration and development.
Spanning 45 kilometres—41.5 km in West Bengal and 3.5 km within Sikkim—the Sevoke-Rangpo railway line features 14 tunnels and 23 bridges, most of which are in the final stages of completion.
The Governor lauded the dedication of NFR and IRCON officials involved in the project and expressed optimism that the landmark railway link will be completed within the stipulated timeline, ushering in a new era of connectivity for Sikkim.
