Sikkim: Hanuman Jayanti celebrated in Hanuman Tok temple

Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated today across the state of Sikkim. Devotees flock to the iconic Hanuman Tok temple, located just a few kilometers away from the state capital. This temple, steeped in mythology and historical significance, has been a traditional hub for Hanuman Jayanti festivities, drawing massive crowds in the early hours of the day.

It is believed that Hanuman tok is the place where Lord Hanuman rested in this place when he was returning after bringing the Sanjivni plant to treat injured Laxumana in Hindu epic Ramayana. From 1962 after the Indo China war the temple has been looked after by the Indian Army.

The atmosphere around Hanuman Tok was vibrant and colorful, as people adorned themselves with Hanuman-printed kurtas, t-shirts, and flags bearing the image of Lord Hanuman. Despite the distance and the pilgrimage-like journey, devotees arrived with naked feet, reflecting their deep reverence and devotion.

Hanuman Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Hanuman, a revered figure known for his strength, energy, and protective abilities. The festival falls on the 15th day of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Chaitra, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and the power of devotion.

Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, took to Twitter to express his reverence on this auspicious occasion. “On the auspicious occasion of Shri Hanuman Jayanti, I visited Mahakal Mandir in Darjeeling to offer prayers and seek the divine blessings of Lord Hanuman Ji on behalf of the people of Sikkim. May the Lord Hanuman Ji grant us strength and guidance to overcome all obstacles and lead us towards prosperity, peace, and higher spiritual level”, Tamanga tweeted.
