The statue of Guru Rinpoche, maintained by Dodrupchen Rinpoche at Sikkim's Chorten Lhagang, was carried in the Guru Chyendren procession on August 4, accompanied by the chanting of the Vajra Guru mantra to mark Guru Rinpoche's Trungkar Tsechu.
Led by the monks blowing ritual instruments and followed by devotees and students, the solemn procession followed the route from Deorali, Metro Point, Zero Point, White Hall and back to Chorten Gonpa.
The main highlight of today's celebration was the unveiling of rare Guru Rinpoche's Thanka during the Guru Rinpoche's Trungkar Tsechu celebration at Chorten Monastery.
Revered as the patron saint of Sikkim, the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava is observed every year with prayers organized for all sentient beings.
The rally was organized by the Sikkim Buddhist Duechen Organization along with other associations.
Padmasambhava popularly known as Guru Rinponche or the precious master is the supreme tantric master and had exhibited mystic feats in sub duing evil spirits and demons thereby reforming them to guard the religion and protect the followers of Dharma. Every 10th day of the lunar month is observed as Guru Tsechu.
