Authorities and local volunteers have intensified efforts to locate 25-year-old Anish Chettri, who went missing on the night of July 13 near the Setipool area in Sikkim’s Pakyong district. Chettri is suspected to have been swept away by a swollen river following heavy rainfall in the region.
The coordinated search operation, now in its fourth day, is being led by SDPO Pakyong, Bikash Peter Rai, and Pakyong Police Station’s SHO, Inspector Pradeep Chhetri. Teams from the Sikkim Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and members of the community have been deployed along the riverbanks, navigating challenging terrain and dangerous currents in the ongoing rescue mission.
Anish, the son of Indra Bahadur Chettri and a resident of Setipool, was last seen before the night rains intensified. Authorities believe he may have slipped near the river due to the unstable, rain-slicked ground.
Family members and local residents have been actively assisting in the search, which has expanded across key points along the river. Officials have confirmed that the operation will continue without interruption until conclusive findings are made.
