As Sikkim prepares to commemorate 50 years of its statehood on May 16, the celebrations are set to shift into high gear with a spectacular motorsport event never seen before in the region. On April 22, 2025, the scenic Burtuk Helipad in Gangtok will roar to life as the JK Tyre-powered Indian Racing Festival takes center stage at 3:00 PM, combining adrenaline, adventure, and a celebration of identity.
This landmark event, being held for the first time in the state, will feature an array of professional car and bike stunt riders from across the country performing daring feats against the dramatic backdrop of the Himalayas. Organised as part of the golden jubilee festivities, the event underscores Sikkim’s growing reputation as a hub for adventure tourism and motorsport enthusiasm.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will grace the occasion as Chief Guest, affirming his government's commitment to youth empowerment, sporting culture, and tourism-based development.
Speaking to the media, Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, stated, “It is a proud moment to share with the nation that our small Himalayan state is completing 50 years as part of India. This motorsport rally is both a tribute and a showcase of Sikkim’s potential in adventure tourism and sustainable progress.”
One of the day’s highlights will be the ceremonial flag-off of ‘Mountain Rush’, Sikkim’s first-ever Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Car Rally. The rally, which will span multiple regions across the state, is expected to draw 45 teams from across India, comprising 100–150 participants, who will navigate Sikkim’s winding roads while discovering its natural beauty, biodiversity, and rich cultural heritage.
Organised jointly by Summit Times and Service to Mankind, with full support from the Government of Sikkim, the event aims not just to entertain but to elevate Sikkim’s visibility on the national and global motorsport map.
"This rally is more than a race—it's an experience,” added Tamang. “Participants will return home as ambassadors of Sikkim, sharing stories of adventure, culture, and hospitality that will spark interest in our state far beyond this event.”
The festival also aims to inspire local youth, promote careers in automotive sports and engineering, and project Sikkim as a year-round destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.
With its powerful blend of culture, celebration, and speed, the Indian Racing Festival promises to be a defining moment in Sikkim’s modern journey.
