Sikkim's Tsomgo Lake receives season's first snowfall

Nestled amidst the majestic Himalayan Mountains at an elevation of approximately 12,000 feet, Tsomgo Lake in Sikkim is a sight to behold as it receives its season's first snowfall.

Sikkim’s Tsomgo Lake and surrounding areas looked straight out of a fairy tale, covered in a complete white marvel, attracting tourists to this hill paradise in the Northeast after pics of the region went viral on social media.

The state received a much-awaited second spell of snowfall.

Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation, Chairman Lukendra Rasaiky shared "The prime tourism destination of Sikkim-Tsomgo-Nathula-Zuluk circuit attracts numerous tourist arrivals to Sikkim, and when there is snow, it is even bigger. Heavy to very heavy snowfall is on in the Tsomgo - Nathula- Zuluk circuit. Now, here is the hope of Sikkim tourism bouncing back."

The lake, which spans over 60 acres, transforms into a winter wonderland, with temperatures that can plummet to as low as -20°C on certain days.

Known locally as the "source of water," the origins of Tsomgo Lake's waters are shrouded in mystery and local legend, adding to the enchantment of this frozen spectacle.

Visitors who brave the cold during this time are rewarded with the serene beauty of the snow-covered landscape, where the lake lies frozen, reflecting the crisp winter sky.

The onset of snowfall typically begins by the end of December and can last until April, painting the area in shades of white and glistening ice. While the lake remains unfrozen in October, the arrival of winter marks a dramatic shift in scenery, with the first snowflakes heralding a season of awe-inspiring natural beauty.

The allure of Tsomgo Lake in its wintry garb is a testament to nature's artistry, drawing visitors from far and wide to witness the seasonal transformation.

As the first snowflakes settle on the rugged terrain, one cannot help but marvel at the breathtaking vista, a true spectacle of Sikkim's natural splendour.
