In a very emotional way, the village heads of Borguli village under Mebo Sub-Division, some 40 km from Pasighat on Wednesday extended a warm welcome back in the village to Oyi Tayeng, who was a member of the team which made the whole village and state proud by winning the runner up title in the Hero Sub-Junior Girls’ National Championship held in Cuttack, Odisha recently.
Oyi Tayeng is a splendid football player who was among the team Arunachal which had a splendid run in the tournament, making history by becoming the first girls’ team from the state to make it to the final of the championship.
Feeling proud of their result, the state’s Chief Minister, Pema Khandu had also hosted a dinner for them on 24th June evening who felicitated the girls’ football team that played the finals of the Hero Sub-junior Girls’ National Championship in Cuttack, Odisha, and emerged runner-up, bowing out to Jharkhand in the summit clash.
“Do not stop playing. Keep your passion for the game intact. Hone your skills and aim for the sky”, Khandu had said.
While welcoming her back, the village elders of Borguli village led by Gaon Burah, Nogen Yirang including the parents of Miss Tayeng expressed their happiness over Oyi’s representing Arunachal Pradesh in the national level sports event.
Gaon Burah Nogen Yirang garlanded Miss Oyi with flowers including some gifts for her making proud to the village where she belongs from, the Borguli village.
Speaking on the occasion, Yirang said that, the entire village is feeling proud for her achievement in the national level sports. He advised her to excel more while continuing her studies.
Other senior villagers like Yung Tayeng, Rambilash Pertin, Horinath Tayeng, Pormananda Tayeng, Join Tayeng, Smty Bapiyang Tayeng including village Secretary, Balom Tayeng, All Borguli Students’ Union President, Tembo Lego and friends also spoke on the occasion and expressed their feeling proud upon Oyi’s talent and ability in sports.
While Oyi’s mother Smty Deoti Tayeng and father Kaling Tayeng were also seemingly very happy seeing their daughter having representing the entire state in the national level sports event.
“We had never dream of our daughter playing in the state and national level sports, but her determination in playing football has taken her up to this stage and we believes that she will make the state more proud in days to come also”, added her parents who are farmers but wish to see their daughter excel more.
Her teachers of Government Secondary School, Motum where she is studying at the moment, Taling Borang and Arun Tayeng also expressed their happiness over Oyi and her team Arunachal having winning runner up of Hero Sub-junior Girls’ National Championship held at Odisha.
“We are very proud of Oyi and entire school of GSS Motum is wishing all the success to her. The sport teachers/coaches like Arun Tayeng and Mr Loyi are grooming our children to do better in sports and we are seeing the results as two boys from the same school have also represented the state in national level sports event last year.
While encouraging her more in sports, we are also ensuring that, Oyi must excel in academic classes also as sports alone can't sustain/give her a balance opportunities as without a proper educational degree talent of sports would be meaningless”, added Taling Borang on behalf of GSS Motum Headmaster who couldn’t turn up in the welcome programme.
Today, Oyi is a proud possessor of many medals won from various sports events in the district and state level games and sports including State level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy etc. Just passed Class IX, Oyi is a shy village girl who grew up like a boy but desires to excel more in the sports of Football and wishes to represent India in the International events in near future.
