Congratulating Jamuna on her fine run at the Championships, the Boxing Federation of India tweeted, "Fine run for Jamuna Boro comes to an end as she goes down 0-5 in the SF to win a Bronze Medal on debut at the AIBA World Boxing Championship 2019 edition. This is just the beginning. Keep working hard and medals will keep coming your way."

In some good news for the Indian contingent, however, debutant Manju Rani (48kg) made history as she booked her place in the final, become the first woman to do so after 18 years (Mary Kom had done it in 2001).

Earlier, Mary Kom too had to settle for bronze after losing her semi-final bout against second seed Busenaz Cakiroglu.

The European champion Cakiroglu was judged to have won the bout 4-1, and she will take on Russia’s Liliya Aetbaeva in the 51-kg category final on Sunday.

This was Mary Kom’s eighth world medal, which is a record. Besides six world titles, Mary Kom has had an incredible career that is also studded with an Olympic bronze medal (2012), five Asian titles, gold medals at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, besides numerous other international top finishes.
