Ace boxer Jamuna Boro from Assam has bagged the gold at the 54 kg category at the India Open Boxing Championship in Guwahati on Friday.
Jamuna Boro defeated Sandhyarani with a score of 5-0, thus qualifying for the World Championship.
It is to be mentioned that the Second India Open International Boxing Tournament is being held at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati today.
Sixteen countries are participating in the tournament where nearly 200 boxers will are vying for the podium.
The grand finale on May 24.
Ten Indian boxers are assured of medals with 6 in men and 4 in women being already placed in the semi-finals in the tournament.
India has fielded a strong contingent of 38 men and 37 women in the tournament including Mary Kom in 51 kilogram category. Six pugilists from Assam would be representing the country in front of the home crowd.
Last year, India won 6 gold medals in the India Open held in New Delhi.
The competition is being held in a total of 18 categories, 10 in men and 8 in women. The gold medallists will get 2500 US dollars and Silver medallist will earn a total of 1000 US dollars.
