Assam’s budding cricketer Riyan Parag will feature in the next Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been bought by the Rajasthan Royals at Rs.20 lakh during the auction of the players at Jaipur on Tuesday. In fact, Rs.20 lakh was his base price.
The 17-year-old all-rounder was part of the Indian squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in New Zealand which was clinched by India.
Riyan was also the leading run scorer for the Assam team in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Tamil Nadu spinner Varun Chakravarthy and fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat, snagged by Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals respectively, were the most expensive buys at Rs.8.4 crore.
It may be mentioned that Riyan is the son of former Assam cricketer Parag Das and ace swimmer Mithu Baruah. He will be the second Assamese player to feature in the cricketing extravaganza after fast bowler Abu Nechim Ahmed.
