Cricketers MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir are likely to contest next year’s Lok Sabha elections from their own states on BJP’s tickets.
Gambhir, who hails from Delhi, is already associated with the BJP. Dhoni, who is from Jharkhand, still plays for India and is expected to figure in the Indian squad in next year’s World Cup.
According to a report in The Sunday Guardian, the BJP is likely to field Gambhir in place of Meenakshi Lekhi, who is a Member of Parliament from Delhi. The BJP, the report said, is in talks with Dhoni to try and convince him for the 2019 elections. The BJP wants to cash in on the popularity of the two cricketers. None of them has so far reacted to the report.
