Cricket Legend Brian Lara Hospitalised after Complaining of Chest Pain

Mumbai, June 25, 2019:

West Indies cricketing legend Brian Lara was taken to the Global Hospital in Parel in Mumbai on Tuesday.

While hospital authorities refused to divulge any information, sources said he had complained of chest pain and he was promptly taken to the hospital.

He was taken to the hospital at 12.30 p.m. and medical investigations were started immediately.

The sources said he was at an event in a nearby hotel when he complained of discomfort.

According to a Times of India report, Lara had a minor heart scare and is not in any danger of further complications.

“He was complaining of unease but he’s absolutely fine now. There’s nothing to worry (about),” a source close to the development told The Times of India.

Brian Lara who is working as an expert with Star, the official broadcaster of the World Cup in India was at an event in a nearby hotel when he experienced some discomfort.

It may be mentioned that Lara is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

He topped the Test batting rankings on several occasions and holds several cricketing records, including the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket, with 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994, which is the only quintuple hundred in first-class cricket history.

Lara also holds the record for the highest individual score in a Test innings after scoring 400 not out against England at Antigua in 2004.

Lara also shares the test record of scoring the highest number of runs in a single over in a Test match, when he scored 28 runs off an over by Robin Peterson of South Africa in 2003 (matched in 2013 by Australia's George Bailey).
