Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's security cover has been downgraded and ‘X’ category removed on Wednesday with the allotment of a police escort whenever he steps out of his home, said reports.
Under the "X" category, a policeman used to guard the 46-year-old cricket legend round-the-clock.

The development took place after a review by a Maharashtra government committee on threat perception to them. Besides, Tendulkar and Thackeray, the security cover of over 90 prominent people were reviewed by the committee.
On the other hand, Shiv Sena MLA, Aaditya Thackeray's security cover has been upgraded to the "Z" category. Earlier, Aaditya Thackeray, the son of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had a "Y+" security cover.
In April 2012, Tendulkar accepted the Rajya Sabha nomination proposed by the President of India and became the first active sportsperson and cricketer to have been nominated.
He took the oath of office on 4 June. He refused to take the bungalow allotted to him in New Delhi calling it "waste of taxpayers' money" as he resides in Mumbai.

As a Rajya Sabha MP, Sachin had drawn nearly Rs 90 lakh in salaries and other monthly allowances. He donated this entire salary and allowances to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
