New Delhi's Ferozshah Kotla stadium will be renamed as 'Arun Jaitley Stadium', as a tribute to the veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader (and former Finance Minister) who passed away recently.
This was announced by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Tuesday, which Jaitley was a President of.
The renaming of the Ferozshah Kotla will take place on September 12 at a function which will see a stand named after Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
It is to be mentioned here that Jaitley, during his tenure at DDCA, is credited with renovating the stadium, erecting more stands for fans, and constructing modern dressing rooms for the players.
Former Delhi cricketer and current Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir, who has long been suggesting that the ground be named after Jaitley, welcomed the move.
The renaming function will be graced by the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.
