Gerard Nus appointed as head coach of NorthEast United FC

NorthEast United Football Club recently picked Gerard Nus as their new head coach on Tuesday, 25th August. Gerard Nus is ready to lead the team and is likely to bring some changes and new strategies to take the team to a new level in the upcoming season of Hero ISL.

The 35-year-old head coach comes to the Hero ISL with the experience of coaching across Europe, Africa, America and Asia-Oceania, having worked in different capacities at various clubs.
Announcing the decision, the team shared a tweet, “All the way from Flag of Spain to Flag of India, please welcome our new Head Coach

A native of Tarragona in Spain, Gerard completed his coaching license at the age of 22 and joined Liverpool FC’s football academy as a coach before becoming a part of then manager Rafael Benitez’s backroom staff at the Merseyside club.

The Spanish head coach got his first taste of a coaching role in international football in 2014 when he joined Ghana’s national team to assist former NorthEast United head coach Avram Grant. He reached the final of the African Cup of Nations in 2015 with the Black Stars, losing out on the trophy to Ivory Coast after a penalty shootout. He also acted as the managing director of Elche CF, before joining Rayo Vallecano as deputy director back in Spain.

Coach Gerard said, “This is going to be my third stint in Asia and I have heard a lot of good things about the club, the fans, and the league from my former boss Avram Grant.”
