The greatest cricket festival in the world, the ICC World Cup 2019, has officially kicked off today with a royal and majestic opening ceremony.
The 2019 ICC World Cup officially kicked off with captains of all the ten nations coming together in an exciting opening ceremony which was presented by former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Shibani Dandekar opposite the Buckingham Palace in London.
Ahead of the lively ceremony at the Mall in central London, the ten captains were at Buckingham Palace where they met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry and other members of the Royal Family at a gala event.
After meeting the Royal Family, the ten captains joined the special invitees at the Garden Party hosted by the Queen at the Palace.
Also present at the ceremony was the legendary Sir Vivian Richards and as was John Newman who sang the song ‘Feel the Love’ by Rudimental.
Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, was also present there.
The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by England and Wales, from 30 May to 14 July 2019.
The teams which will contest this are: South Africa, India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and West Indies.
South Africa vs England:
Meanwhile, hosts England are battling South Africa in the first match which is being held at The Oval, London.
The hosts England have been put in to bat and are at the score of 192/3 after 34 overs. The current run rate is 5.66.Ben Stokes and Eoin Morgan are at the crease. It may be mentioned that opener Jonny Bairstow was sent packing in the very first over of the innings.
