If You Want Medals in Olympics, Give Facilities to Northeast: Arjuna Awardee Bhogeswar Baruah to Centre

Moran, March 9, 2020:

Arjuna Awardee and one of the leading sports personalities of Assam, Bhogeswar Baruah was taken aback by the sheer talent exhibited by youngsters at a recent gymnastics workshop that was held in Assam's Moran. Baruah also said that that back in 1964, a prominent coach had demanded the Indian Government to give more facilities to the NE athletes if India is to shine brighter in the Olympics.

Although the local Gymnastics Association does not have a permanent coach, the kids showed tremendous zeal and enthusiasm in soaking up the teachings given to them by a special team that had been brought in.

The 10-day gymnastics training camp that was held at the Moran's artist society's auditorium saw the attendance of Baruah as the chief guest at the closing ceremony. The legendary athlete from Assam also commended Anjali Chetia, the President of the Moranhat Gymnastics Union that had organized the camp for the youngsters. Baruah also said that there is a lot of sporting talent in the Northeast Indian states that needs to be groomed. "The kind of talent that is in the NE...the kinds of talent that is needed, that is to be found in the NE", he said, adding that the Government should give facilities to the NE if India wants medals in the Northeast.
