Indian becomes first amputee woman to scale Mount Vinson in Antarctica

Guwahati, January 5, 2019:

Arunima Sinha from Uttar Pradesh in India has achieved the glory of becoming the world’s first woman amputee to climb Mount Vinson, the highest peak of Antarctica. She bought the fame to the nation on January 4 by achieving the feat.

It is to be mentioned that Arunima is also the first female amputee to scale Mount Everest, the tallest mountain peak.

While she was going to apply for a job of the CISF in 2011, she was pushed from a running train by some robbers while she was resisting them. As a result, one of her legs had to be amputated below the knee. But despite all the difficulties, she never stopped and has climbed the ladders of success.

Despite the ups-and-downs in her life, she holds fast to her aim to climb all the continents' highest peaks and hoist the national flag of India. By 2014, she had already climbed six peaks, namely Mount Everest in Asia, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Kosciuszko in Australia, Aconcagua in Argentina and Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia.

Besides her aim of climbing the highest peaks, she was also a national level volleyball player.
